Aarhus welcomes new direct Polish link from October

Baltic port becomes first East European destination by Ryanair from Aarhus

From October 2017, Ryanair will open new service between European Capital of Culture, Aarhus, and the Baltic coast city of Gdansk, in Poland.  Ryanair's first Polish and East European destination from Aarhus, the airline has announced plan to operate between the two port cities from the beginning of the Winter 17/18 timetable, twice weekly.

Welcoming the news from Ryanair, Aarhus Airport's Head of Airline Relations, David Surley, said "this is very exciting news from Ryanair and we are delighted they are to add Poland to their Aarhus services from this coming winter.  There is a large Polish population around Aarhus and the eastern mainland Denmark region, this is absolutely the kind of connectivity that will work for our rapidly growing metropolitan population and also works well for Danish leisure travellers and the region's businesses alike".

Gdansk is one of Poland's largest population centres as part of the 'Tricity' area including Sopat and Gdynia, as well as Poland's largest port.  The old town offers many renowned tourism attractions and Gdansk is also a thriving commercial city, with several major business sector synergies to that of Aarhus, Denmark's 2nd largest and fastest growing city.

“Ryanair is pleased to announce a new route from Aarhus to Gdansk, with a twice weekly service starting in October, as part of our Aarhus winter 2017 service, which will go on sale soon and we expect that amazing low fares to welcome the new service will be snapped up quickly", said Ryanair’s Sales and Marketing Manager for the Nordic region, Nikolaj Thomsen.

"The airport has seen exceptional international growth of 22% through 2016", said David Surley, "Ryanair is one of our top airline customers and we are thrilled to see them invest further in the Aarhus regional economy by adding new international capacity.  This is a really great time to expand at Aarhus, as the city is growing extremely quickly and the demand base continues to build, especially for markets like Gdansk.  Poland is one of the markets we have seen growing at over 30% year on year in 2016 and this Ryanair development is superbly timed to capitalise"

Details of the new twice weekly flights are anticipated in Ryanair's forthcoming Winter 17/18 timetable.  The Gdansk service joins new routes by SAS Scandinavian Airlines and Czech Airlines already announced for 2017
