Marking the start of a new era for Cyprus’ aviation industry, new low-cost carrier,Cobalt, recently had its official inauguration of its Larnaca Athens flight, at Athens International Airport.

Cobalt’s very first scheduled flight from Larnaca to Athens took off in July 7th signaling the official launch of operations. Meanwhile, following the official launch, the airline is offering services to Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Chania, London, Manchester, Dublin and Paris, with more destinations to follow. This will boost the total number to four Airbus A320s and A321s.

Looking ahead, Cobalt has plans in the pipeline to expand its network with more aircraft joining later on in the year and in 2017.

Sharing its vision was chairman, Cobalt, Gregory Diacou, who explained that the airline aims to further build on the country’s long and proud aviation tradition, by not only filling the operational gap left by Cyprus Airways, but also by contributing to the broader development of the country’s economy and tourism sector.

In the meantime, CEO, Cobalt, Andrew Pyne declared: “We, Cobalt, are focused on developing our home base at Larnaca as a key regional hub, focusing on transfer traffic as well as promoting Cyprus as a destination.

“We have all witnessed the surge in economic and business activity that has coalesced around other successful hubs. The benefits from developing Larnaca as a true regional hub will flow to every city, town and village across this island. This is why today, as well as holding great spiritual and social significance, also marks an important milestone in Cyprus’s economic renaissance.”
