Facts (Overview)

Birmingham Airport is the UK’s third largest airport outside London, the third largest for charter traffic, and the seventh largest overall. In 2010, 9 million passengers used the airport. Birmingham currently serves 114 direct scheduled and charter routes and offers an additional 279 possible connections worldwide. This gives passengers a choice of almost 400 direct or one-stop flights. More than 40 airlines currently operate out of Birmingham Airport.

Birmingham Airport has two major development projects in the pipeline to provide greater international connectivity: the UK High Speed rail project which will allow access from an on-site railway station to central London within 34 minutes, and planning permission for a 400m runway extension to be completed by 2014, allowing the airport to offer direct flights to the US West Coast, China, Japan, South America and South Africa.
