Record Year Beckons As Dublin First Half Traffic Up 15%

New figures today show that the airport handled 11.5 million passengers in the six months to the end of June – a 15% rise on the same period last year.

This compares to 10 million passengers during the first half of 2014.

In June alone, traffic grew by 18% with almost 2.5 million passengers travelling.

“Dublin Airport had very strong passenger growth in the first six months of 2015 increasing by over three times the European average,” said Dublin Airport Managing Director, Vincent Harrison.

“The growth is due to 22 new routes/services starting in the first half of the year as well as additional capacity on a number on existing services.”

Passenger traffic to and from Dublin’s 122 continental European destinations grew by 16% during the first six months, with almost 5.9 million people travelling.

Traffic to and from Dublin’s 25 UK destinations increased by 13% to over 4.2 million.

Transatlantic traffic was up 12%, with just over one million people travelling between Dublin and North America. This summer ten airlines are flying 328 flights to and from 11 destinations in the US and four in Canada - an average of 47 flights per day.

Other international traffic, including flights to two destinations in the Middle East and three in Africa, rose by 33% to almost 370,000 passengers.

The numbers flying on domestic Irish routes increased by 19% to almost 36,000.

Said Vincent Harrison: “We welcomed six new airlines in the first six months of the year offering greater choice and flexibility for both business and leisure passengers. The outlook for the rest of the year remains positive with 2015 on course to be the busiest in the airport’s history.”
