International passenger terminal to be modernized in 2013

The passenger terminal complex of NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport is to be modernized in 2013-2015.

As the first phase of the renovation project, already in 2013 the floor space of the international passenger terminal will expand from 11,000 m2 up to 23,000 m2 while its capacity will be doubled.

The renovated building will be equipped with escalators, elevators for passengers with reduced mobility, business lounge and parenting room. Up-to-date baggage conveyor system and an “island” check-in area will become a part of the renovated terminal. The number of jet bridges will increase up to three.

The second phase includes construction of the connecting gallery between domestic and international terminals in 2014-2015. Quoting the General Director of Airport Tolmachevo JSC Evgeniy Yankilevich as saying, the necessity to modernize the terminal complex is dictated by rapidly growing passenger traffic of the airport. In 2013 NOVOISBIRSK International Airport expects to serve 3.7 million people and by 2020 we expect passenger traffic to reach 6 million people.

To be still approved within the general business development concept, further modernization of the airport infrastructure implies construction of a roofed parking lot with the square exceeding 25,000 m2, 3- or 4-star business hotel for 150 beds, Runway 1 overhaul, connecting taxiway between Runway 1 and Runway 2 and other projects.

Realized by NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport the development programme is aimed at transformation of the airport complex into commercially viable aviation center of international significance with the most comfortable facilities and processes for passenger and airline services.

NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport is the largest air hub east of the Urals on major transit routes between Europe and Asia. The domestic airline capacity makes up 1,800 passengers per hour, on international flights – 750 passengers per hour. The airport has two runways. In 2013 it expects to serve over 3.7 million passengers. The airport has been nominated for World Routes Awards in the category “The Best Airport of CIS 2012”.
