NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport and EMS Russian Post to expedite international mail delivery

NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport in association with EMS Russian Post will open Novosibirsk international postal exchange office in 2013. Already this year its capacity will make up 1.4 million kg.

Starting from the second half of 2013, most EMS-packages delivered to Russia from South-East Asia, China and Australia will be forwarded to Novosibirsk for customs processing bypassing Moscow.

Decentralization will enable to optimize workload of the international postal exchange office in Moscow and will substantially reduce delivery time to addressees. Following the opening of Novosibirsk international postal exchange office, the residents of such regions as Siberia, the Urals, the Volga and Far East will be able to receive EMS-packages in a shorter time period: for some areas delivery term will reduce to 5 days.

The project implementation started in spring 2012. Currently, construction works and installation of processing equipment are being conducted in the area of over 2,000 m2. All pre-opening arrangements are expected to be completed by April 2013.

Quoting the General Director of Airport Tolmachevo JSC Evgeniy Yankilevich as saying, the decision to choose NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport as a place of the new international postal exchange office was determined by availability of necessary infrastructure as well as favorable geographical location. It is the largest international airport beyond the Urals positioned on many air transit routes connecting South-East Asia and China with Europe and North America.

NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport is the largest transit air hub in the Asian part of Russia. The airport has two runways, provides handling services of regular cargo flights of both Russian and foreign airlines such as AirBridgeCargo, Aeroflot, Volga-Dnepr, Cargolux, Air Cargo Germany, Air China Cargo, Yangtze River Express and others. Capacity of the freight complex Tolmachevo Cargo makes up 50,000 tons per year.In 2013 it expects to handle over 35,000 tons of cargo and mail (+25%). The airport has been nominated for World Routes Awards in the category “The Best Airport of CIS 2012”.
