Successful First Quarter at Václav Havel Airport Prague

2015’s first quarter’s operational results of Václav Havel Airport Prague

2015’s first quarter’s operational results of Václav Havel Airport Prague have confirmed a growing interest in Prague as a final destination. Václav Havel Airport Prague handled a total of 2,011,729 passengers during the first quarter of the year 2015 whereas 70 thousand fewer passengers were handled during the same period of the year 2014.

“Year-on-year, the airport handled 3.58 % more passengers during the first quarter of the year. The greatest increase in passenger numbers has been recorded among travellers from Europe and the Middle East. Based on the most up-to-date figures, it is expected that the overall increase of passengers could reach 3 % in 2015,” Václav Řehoř, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Czech Aeroholding, commented.

Countries with the greatest increase in passenger numbers travelling to/from Prague were Great Britain, Belgium, Ireland, the United Arab Emirates and Israel. Among the top destinations with regard to passenger-volume increases were Stansted airport in London, Rome/Fiumicino, Dublin, Dubai and Tel Aviv. Prague Airport was thus able to compensate for the decrease in passengers on flights from Russia and Ukraine thanks to the increases at the above-listed destinations.

The increased volume of passengers transported during the first quarter of the year is due to new services which were not operated during the same period of the previous year (e.g. Paris/Orly and Istanbul/Sabiha Gokcen) and to increased capacity of the individual services offered, predominantly to traditional destinations, such as London, Rome and Dubai. The load efficiency ratio has also been growing thanks to services launched during the previous year, which are expected to grow even further in the future. The average seat capacity use of all flights performed during the 2015’s first quarter has grown by 4 percentage points to 71 % year-on-year.
