28 million passengers took off and landed last year at Berlin’s airports

Just under 28 million passengers took off and landed last year at Berlin’s airports. The capital, with its two airports at Schönefeld and Tegel, thus continues to be the number three in Germany, after Frankfurt/Main and Munich. A total of 27,980,533 passengers used Schönefeld and Tegel airports from January to December, which represents an increase of 6.3 per cent compared to the same period the previous year. In 2014, 7,292,517 passengers were recorded at Schönefeld. That is 8.4 per cent more than in the comparison period in 2013. Tegel Airport at the same time handled 20,688,016 passengers, which is 5.6 per cent more than in the comparison period in 2013.

The number of flight movements all together rose last year to a total of 252,522 take-offs and landings, which represents an increase of 5.2 per cent compared to the same period the previous year. At Schönefeld, the number of flight movements increased to 70,325. This corresponds to an increase of 7.7 per cent. At Tegel there was an increase of 4.3 per cent compared to the previous year. A total of 182,197 flight movements were recorded at Tegel from January to December.Airfreight last year overall totalled 43,388 tonnes, which represents an increase of 23.1 per cent compared to the same period the previous year.
