Passenger numbers at Schönefeld rise dramatically

In the first ten months of 2016 almost 27.7 million passengers flew from Schönefeld and Tegel. That’s 11.7 % more than in the same period in 2015. At Schönefeld Airport the number of passengers increased by 40.2 %.


The latest traffic report presents the figures for passengers, flights and air cargo in October 2016 as well as the accumulated data since the start of the year, each given in comparison with the same period in the previous year.

Traffic figures January to October 2016

  • Passengers: from January to October, 27,680,935 passengers flew from Schönefeld and Tegel. That’s an increase of 11.7 % in comparison with the previous year. At Schönefeld, 9,660,898 passengers arrived and departed representing an increase of 40.2 % over the same period in 2015. Some 18,020,037 passengers flew from Tegel, which represents an increase of 0.7 % over the same period in the previous year.
  • Flights: together, the number of flights at Schönefeld and Tegel grew in the period between January and October 2016 to 236,813 take-offs and landings, representing an increase of 8.9 % in comparison to the previous year. At Schönefeld the number of flights rose to 80,201. This represents an increase of 29.8 %. Tegel saw 156,612 take-offs and landings, which is 0.6 % more than the previous year. 
  • Air cargo: overall, 38,289 tons of air cargo were registered between January and October. This represents an increase of 7.8 % in relation to the same period in the previous year. In the first ten months 7,363 tons of air cargo were processed at Schönefeld (+10.8 %), with 30,926 tons (+7.1 %) going through Tegel.

Traffic Report October 2016

  • Passengers: in October 2016, 3,143,804 passengers arrived and departed to and from Schönefeld and Tegel. This is an increase of 10 % over the same period in the previous year. In October, 1,170,567 passengers (+36.9 %) flew from Schönefeld, at Tegel this figure was 1,973,237 (-1.5 %).
  • Flights: The number of flights at Schönefeld and Tegel increased in October 2016 to 25,577 take-offs and landings, representing an increase of 5.9 % in comparison with the same period in the previous year. At Schönefeld, the number of flights grew to 9,193 (+27.6 %). At Tegel, the number of flights in October dropped to 16,384 (-3.2 %).
  • Air cargo: in October 2016, 4,561 tons of air cargo were registered at Schönefeld and Tegel, representing an increase of 25.3 % compared with October 2015. Air cargo at Schönefeld reached 791 tons, some 17.7 % more than October 2015. At Tegel 3,770 tons were registered (+27 %).
