Double digit growth for Berlin’s airports in April:

Ten million passengers in the first four months

This April over 2.9 million passengers flew from Schönefeld and Tegel. That’s 12.2 % more than in April 2016. At Schönefeld Airport the number of passengers grew over the previous year by as much as 23.5 % to more than 1.1 million. From January to April, some 3.9 million passengers flew from Schönefeld alone, that’s over 500,000 passengers more than from Cologne/Bonn Airport.

The current traffic report contains the figures for passengers, flights and cargo for April 2017 as well as the cumulative figures since the start of the year, both compared to the same period in the previous year.

Traffic figures January to April 2017

  • Passengers: from January to April, 10,006,059 passengers flew from Schönefeld and Tegel. That’s an increase of 6.3 % compared to the same period in the previous year. 3,888,297 passengers passed through Schönefeld, that’s 18 % more than in the same period in 2016. 6,117,762 passengers flew from Tegel, that’s about equal to the same period in the previous year.
  • Flights: the number of flights at Schönefeld and Tegel combined rose from January to April 2017 to 87,045 take-offs and landings, an increase of 0.3 % compared to the same period in the previous year. At Schönefeld the number of flights grew to 31,797. This represents an increase of 10.9 %. At Tegel there were 55,248 take-offs and landings, that’s 5 % less than the previous year.
  • Cargo: from January to April a total of 16,219 tons of cargo were recorded, that means an increase of 17.3 % compared to the same period in the previous year. In the first two months, Schönefeld saw 2,906 tons of cargo pass through (+17.3 %), at Tegel the figure was 13,312 tons (+17.2 %).

Traffic figures April 2017

  • Passengers: in April 2017, 2,922,311 passengers passed through Schönefeld and Tegel airports. That’s an increase of 12.2 % compared to the same month in the previous year. In April 1,112,372 passengers (+23.5 %) flew from Schönefeld, at Tegel this figure was 1,809,939 passengers (+6.2 %). 
  • Flights: the number of flights at Schönefeld and Tegel sank in April 2017 to 23,398 take-offs and landings, a change of 1.8 % compared to the same period in the previous year. At Schönefeld the number of flights grew to 8,393 (+5 %). At Tegel the number of flights dropped in April to 15,005 ( 5.2 %).
  • Cargo: in April 2017, 4,342 tons of cargo were recorded at Schönefeld and Tegel airports, an increase of 19.6 % compared to April 2016. Schönefeld recorded 721 tons, that’s 7.1 % more than April 2016. At Tegel some 3,621 tons of cargo were recorded (+22.4 %).
