WIZZ AIR ANNOUNCES DIRECT FLIGHTS FROM ABERDEEN TO WARSAW

18/09/2015

Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, has announced it is to introduce direct flights between Aberdeen and the Polish capital of Warsaw.

It will be the first time Warsaw has been served as a destination from Aberdeen Airport and Wizz Air will operate a year round, twice weekly service starting on 13 May 2016.

The airline moved to Aberdeen Airport earlier this year when it launched a twice weekly service to Gdansk. Since the inaugural flight took off on 19 June the route has proved extremely popular. Wizz Air’s expansion at Aberdeen, means it now offers a total of 122 routes to 20 countries from Poland. Seats on the new Warsaw route are already on sale and can be booked on wizzair.com.

Carol Benzie, managing director at Aberdeen Airport, said: “Wizz Air is an ambitious and rapidly growing airline and the addition of Warsaw is fantastic news for the airport and the city. We are continually working to expand our route network and not only will Wizz Air’s new route strengthen our connectivity with Europe’s major cities, it has huge potential to generate significant in-bound tourism for Aberdeen.”

József Váradi, CEO of Wizz Air said: "I’m delighted that our Polish business keeps growing after a year of almost 30 percent capacity growth in our six Polish bases. By adding a sixth aircraft to our Warsaw base, we respond to demand and continue investing in offering low fares from Warsaw’s main airport. Our move to Aberdeen Airport is a step towards future passenger and route growth.”

Wizz Air has seen a 30 percent increase in traffic on Polish routes in the first nine months of 2015 compared with the first nine months of 2014.
