Facts (Overview)
A unique destination packed full of culture, history and tax free shopping, Gibraltar is located at the southern end of the Iberian Peninsula. The self-governing British Overseas Territory borders Spain to the north and, across the Straits of Gibraltar, Morocco to the south. As well as a holiday hotspot, Gibraltar is the only EU Onshore Finance Hub offering Financial Services, Maritime services and E-Gaming as its main economic sectors. It’s GDP per capita ranks as one of the highest in the world.
In 2011, 378,000 passengers travelled through GIB, a 27% increase on 2010. GIB's location also serves as the natural gateway to Southern Spain via Gibraltar’s land border with the neighbouring country, only a 2 minute walk from the terminal building. In 2011 61% of arrivals were 'in transit' to the region. Additionally, the neighbouring African country of Morocco is also easily accessible.
