Melbourne Airport was Australia’s best performing major airport in 2010, up +9.9%, handling 27.7 million passengers ahead of Sydney (+7.8%) and Brisbane (+4.6%).
Melbourne’s international passengers reached a record 5.9 million passengers in 2010 (+13.7%). This performance was notably stronger than Sydney (+6.9%) and Brisbane (+3.3%).
The strong international passenger performance for 2010 was driven by growth from Melbourne’s largest markets, the United Kingdom +8.2%, China up +21.8%, Malaysia +22.2% and Singapore +10.7%. These results reflect the strength of the Melbourne outbound market and Melbourne's standing as a world class destination for leisure, business and education.
Domestically, Melbourne handled 21.7 million passengers (+8.9%). This performance was also ahead of Sydney (+8.2%) and Brisbane (+5.0%).
