New Starbucks, renovated baggage claim, expanded free wireless among new customer amenities at Pittsburgh International Airport

Two new Starbucks coffee shops at Pittsburgh International Airport are the latest in a string of changes and upgrades aimed at improving the customer experience.

One of the new coffee shops will be located in the Airside Terminal in the center core while the other will be located in the baggage claim level of the Landside Terminal. The coffee shops will join a new martini bar that opened in September as well as a planned wine bar – Vino Volo. The coffee shops are planned to be open by Christmas.

Additionally, the airport expanded its wireless network to include the baggage claim level as part of the renovations there. New colorful carpeting was installed and crews removed several walls to give the space a more open feel. The free wireless network now covers nearly the entire airport. More than a decade ago, Pittsburgh International Airport was the first airport in the country to offer free wireless.

“The improvements in customer amenities and concessions are just part of the momentum at Pittsburgh International Airport,” Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald said. “Flight options continue to expand as airlines are recognizing the growing economy in the Pittsburgh region.”

“We’re very happy to announce these improvements that focus on the customer experience. Just like the additions of Uber and Lyft as transportation options, these are things customers have asked for and we – along with our partners at AIRMALL – responded,” CEO Christina Cassotis said. “These customer amenity improvements mirror our ongoing air service improvements.”

Pittsburgh International Airport offers nonstop service to 51 destinations, including four new airlines this year, with more than 170 flights a day. Through September, passenger traffic is on pace to be up about one percent, seats up 3.1 percent and flights up 8.7 percent this year.

“Passengers will find a variety of new shopping and dining options at the airport,” said Jay Kruisselbrink, senior vice president of AIRMALL USA. “We’re pleased to add Starbucks and Vino Volo to our exciting retail mix at AIRMALL Pittsburgh. We are always focused on enhancing the passenger experience, and these new arrivals are a wonderful complement to our program.”
