Pittsburgh International Named a Top Domestic Airport by Conde Nast Traveler

Pittsburgh hotels also earn top marks as the region's hospitality and tourism sector thrives

Adding to a growing list of recent accolades, Pittsburgh International Airport has been named a Top 10 Domestic Airport in 2016 by readers of Condé Nast Traveler.

Additionally, two of the top five domestic airlines named in the magazine – JetBlue and Southwest, serve 18 business and leisure destinations nonstop from PIT. And, two Pittsburgh hotels – Hotel Monaco and the Omni William Penn – were named among the Top 10 Hotels in the Mid-Atlantic Region according to the annual survey that identifies the world’s best travel experiences.

“Pittsburgh International Airport continues to make great strides in terms of new air service, customer service and important updates to facilities to better reflect our revitalized region,” Allegheny County Airport Authority CEO Christina Cassotis said. “We’re proud that travelers are noticing and placing our airport and city among the world’s best.”

Pittsburgh International came in at No. 8 on the list of Top Domestic Airlines. Readers cited ease of access, speed of security procedures, upgrades and amenities and dining and shopping facilities as key factors influencing their choices. More than 300,000 readers worldwide participated in the survey.

“Travelers have not stopped discovering new places and travel professionals have never stopped serving them to the highest standards. This is a celebration of the Best in the World, and Pittsburgh is part of it,” said Victor De Vita, Associate Director of Brand Communications for Condé Nast Traveler.

In addition to new air service and increased passenger traffic in 2016, Pittsburgh International has added new concessions including Starbucks, Chick-fil-A and the Strip Market; an award-winning Mothers’ Nursing Lounge, a new Performing Arts Series and additional transportation options including Uber, Lyft and zTrip pickups.

The airport has also completed improvements to its international arrivals process, renovation of restrooms and updates in Baggage Claim. The airport continues to provide free WiFi as well as a TSA Pre-check and Global Entry registration office.
