Pittsburgh International Announces Year-Round Service to Reykjavik, Europe on WOW air

Reykjavik is Pittsburgh's 64th Nonstop Destination, Up From 37 Only Two Years Ago

Following a successful year of new flight destinations from North America, one of Europe’s fastest growing airlines, WOW air, will continue to offer easy and low-cost ways for Americans to travel to Europe by soon adding Pittsburgh to the growing list of destinations.

The affordable transatlantic airline will begin nonstop flights from Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) to Iceland and travellers can continue their trip to WOW air’s other European destinations including London, Amsterdam, Milan and Dublin.

Skúli Mogensen, Founder and CEO of WOW air said, “Making exciting new destinations accessible for travellers across the world at unbeatable prices is an integral part of our ethos at WOW air. Pittsburgh is certainly a destination on the rise and one that will appeal to a wide range of European travellers looking to discover somewhere different, so we’re thrilled to add the destination to our route list.”

Service from PIT to and from Iceland will start at four days a week with connecting flights on to other available European destinations. The inaugural flight from Pittsburgh will be on June 16, 2017.

“I’m thrilled to welcome WOW air as Pittsburgh International Airport’s next international carrier with service to Europe,” Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald said. “Our recent growth and momentum at Pittsburgh International is matching the momentum and growth of our region. WOW recognized Pittsburgh’s pent-up demand for air service to Europe, and the airline’s ultra-low cost fares will greatly enhance travellers’ options.”

WOW air’s continued development across the United States follows the successful launch of transatlantic services from 21 European destinations the east coast in early 2015 and the start of service this summer from San Francisco and Los Angeles, with fares as low as $99 including taxes. The existing U.S. services now operates year-round and maintains consistent carrier loads of 90 percent plus.

“We are excited to once again have year-round transatlantic service with easy access to Europe,” Allegheny County Airport Authority CEO Christina Cassotis said. “We are honored to be the seventh U.S. market selected by WOW for service to the airline’s more than 20 international destinations.”
