Pittsburgh International Announces New Service to Frankfurt on Condor

Flights bring additional options for tourism and business travel

In less than a week, Pittsburgh International Airport is announcing a second new nonstop transatlantic flight.

Today, Condor Airlines announced new seasonal nonstop service to Frankfurt, Germany, a city that has been in high demand by the Pittsburgh region. Twice weekly flights (Fridays and Mondays) will begin on June 23, 2017, and continue through September. Flights will be offered on a Boeing 767-300 with a Business Class, premium economy, in-seat entertainment system in all classes and new seats.

“This is truly a remarkable week for Pittsburgh International Airport and for the entire region,” said “Allegheny County Chief Executive Rich Fitzgerald. “This new service into Frankfurt on Condor will allow leisure travelers such as friends and relatives to get to Germany faster and more comfortably from Pittsburgh as well as have an added benefit to help businesses with German connections such as Bayer, Bosch and Siemens to continue to grow.”

According to the German American Chamber of Commerce in Pittsburgh, there are approximately 11,000 people working for German-owned companies in the region; 5,000 German citizens with family in the area; 125 German companies including Adidas, BASF, Bayer, Bosch, SAP and Siemens.

The last time Pittsburgh International had service to Frankfurt was in October 2004. Frankfurt, the business, transportation and financial center of Germany, is a key city for business and leisure travelers alike, and offers important connections to other cities throughout the world to Germany and Europe including Munich, which has become the second largest hub for Condor.

“While we know many leisure travelers will use this route, we have at least 13 German companies with Pittsburgh offices or subsidiaries; 15 German organizations in the region and 10 university and secondary school partnerships with German institutions,” said Allegheny County Airport Authority CEO Christina Cassotis. “Those figures translate to passengers as well as cargo opportunities with this widebody aircraft, and we’re so happy that Condor recognized the demand for this service in Pittsburgh.”

Today, Pittsburgh becomes one of 17 destinations served by Condor in North America. On an annual basis, more than seven million passengers fly with Condor, which celebrated its 60th anniversary in September, to about 75 destinations in Europe, America, Africa and Asia.
