Port of Seattle Welcomes Additional Nonstop Service to Dubai from Emirates

The Port of Seattle welcomes the confirmation of a second daily flight to Dubai, United Arab Emirates from Emirates airlines at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Emirates started selling seats today for the additional flight which will begin July 1.

Emirates began service to Dubai from Sea-Tac in March 2012. This added flight comes nearly a year after the airline added another 80 seats with a larger aircraft in May 2014. As the world’s largest international carrier (measured by international traffic) and fastest growing airline, Emirates connects to more than 140 destinations over 70 countries.

"This added service shows the continued growth of our region and how important it is for business and leisure travelers to have a direct link to and from Sea-Tac," said Courtney Gregoire, Port of Seattle Commission Co-President. "The Port of Seattle is a leading contributor to the region’s economic vitality, and that vital economy depends on a thriving international airport. The opportunities directly benefit exporters of products by our businesses, imports for consumers, and the impact for tourism opportunities which all create jobs throughout our state."

The Dubai flight will operate using a 266-seat Boeing 777-200LR aircraft with 8 first class, 42 Business class, and 216 Economy class seats.

The new service also brings additional international cargo lift to Seattle with 12 to 15-ton freight capacity per flight, serving one of the largest cargo hubs in the world. Dubai ranked sixth in the world for total cargo for 2013, and is the second busiest worldwide for international freight.

Since their service began, Emirates has carried over 550,000 passengers at Sea-Tac, including more than 212,000 in 2014. Emirates has a fleet of 232 widebody aircraft, with 281 on order, including 200 Boeing 777s. Emirates also partners with Alaska Airlines in frequent flyer reciprocity.

International Traffic Surging at Sea-Tac
International traffic continues to grow at Sea-Tac Airport. Since 2009, long-haul international passengers have increased nearly 80 percent and all international passenger traffic (including Canada and Mexico) has increased over 45 percent. Over the past ten years, Sea-Tac has added 14 new intercontinental services.

Each new international service is estimated to add $75 million in economic impact and 1,400 jobs to the region. The port is working on a conceptual design for a new International Arrivals Facility to upgrade the current facility which dates to the 1970’s. The new facility will increase passenger capacity by nearly 60%, nearly double the number of existing gates capable of serving international wide-body aircraft, and reduce minimum passenger connection time from 90 to 75 minutes.

Sea-Tac Airport is currently ranked as the 14th largest U.S. airport with nearly 37.5 million passengers in 2014, a record for the fourth straight year.
