KUALA LUMPUR, February 5 - Malaysia Airports swooped two accolades in the 2010 Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific Aerospace & Defence Awards when it received the Airport Investment Company of the Year and Asia Pacific Airport of the Year (Above 15 Million Annual Passengers) awards.

Malaysia Airports was the recipient of Airport Investment Company of the Year while KL International Airport (KLIA) received the Asia Pacific Airport of the Year (Above 15 Million Annual Passengers). Dato' Abdul Hamid Mohd Ali, Chief Operating Officer of Malaysia Airports received the award at a ceremony in Singapore yesterday.

Dato' Abdul Hamid, in his acceptance speech said, "Malaysia Airports is very delighted to receive these first two awards in 2010, and certainly this will spur us to scale greater heights. The award signifies that that we have performed well last year despite the adverse economic situation, which impacted the aviation industry all over the world."

"Despite the economic uncertainty and turmoil, Malaysia Airports is confident of their growth and proceeded with further investment opportunities locally and internationally. Their overall airport investments are generating substantial returns in revenues and displaying strong growth. Implementation of best practices through cost optimization, lean initiatives and innovative procurement procedures are some of the key factors that led to the success of Malaysia Airports and the deserving recipient of Frost & Sullivan's Asia Pacific Airport Investment Company of the Year award," said Cheong Chern Wai, Research Analyst for Frost & Sullivan's Asia Pacific Aerospace & Defense practice.

Both awards represent the prestigious recognition of Malaysia Airports' accomplishments in the commercial aviation and airports sector. Growth strategy and implementation, degree of innovation in business processes, products and/or technologies and also leadership in customer value and market penetration are used to benchmark Malaysia Airports' performance against key competitors.

"We would like to thank the organiser for taking the initiative to acknowledge contributions and performance of airports in 2009. We also would like to thank all our employees and business partners; airlines, private and government agencies, for their support and cooperation throughout these years, as this achievement would not be possible without their continuous support," Dato' Abdul Hamid added.

This achievement represents Malaysia Airports' second success in the Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific Aerospace & Defense Awards. Penang International Airport was selected as Airport Of The Year (Below 15 Million Passengers Annually) in the 2009 Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific Aerospace & Defense Awards.

The awards program, now in its fourth consecutive year, is held annually in Singapore and is looked upon by the industry as the most coveted title for best-in-class performers. The Awards encompasses the Airlines, Airports, Manufacturing, MRO, Aviation Training, Defense, General Aviation and Homeland Security Sectors.
