Facts (Overview)

Lynden Pindling International Airport

Nassau and its twin destination, Paradise Island, are the most visited destinations in the Caribbean region, welcoming some four million visitors each year.  Known for its sun, sand, water and the warmth of its people, Nassau is also the capital city of The Bahamas and the country’s hub for finance, tourism and government.  Just nine miles from the city centre is Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA), the busiest airport in The Bahamas, and an important gateway to the Caribbean, welcoming 3.1 million passengers annually, a mixture of visitors from abroad and a local population that tends to travel frequently.  In early 2011, the airport opened a new 247,000 square foot U.S. Terminal and Pier, the first stage of a $409.5 million airport redevelopment project. Once all three phases are complete in 2013, the new airport complex will be 571,000 square feet and will be able to accomodate 5 million passengers.
