598,368 PASSENGERS AT BSCA IN JUNE 2015 A 9% INCREASE FOR THE FIRST HALF OF 2015

09/07/2015

Brussels South Charleroi Airport presents its results in terms of passenger traffic for June 2015. Last month, 598,368 passengers were recorded at BSCA, compared with the 557,500 passengers who went through Charleroi in 2014. This represents a rise of 7% compared with last year’s results. The first half of the year at Brussels South Charleroi Airport also ended with a rise in the number of passengers welcomed. So far, 3,219,468 passengers have passed through BSCA compared with 2,964,829 in 2014, representing an increase of 9%.

The number of movements for the first half of the year has however fallen by 8.79% compared with 2014 when 40,158 movements were recorded, against 36,628 this year. Although the context continues to be a competitive one, the number of passengers welcomed continues to rise and can be explained in no small part by the fact that the occupancy rate of planes is higher than that seen in 2014.

In June 2015, the five countries attracting the most visitors from Brussels South Charleroi Airport were Spain, Italy, France, Morocco and Poland. The top five countries are slightly different however if we look at the first half of 2015 as a whole. Between January and June 2015, Italy came first as the most popular country visited from BSCA, followed by Spain, France, Morocco and Poland.

The airport’s managers are pleased with these figures. They are the result of the hard work carried out every day by all the airport’s teams. Jean-Jacques Cloquet, BSCA’s CEO, has analysed the results and is keen to remind everyone that we mustn’t be complacent: “Despite a difficult year in 2014 during which we lost a number of passengers, we can see that, thanks to hard work and perseverance, things have improved in 2015 with an increase of 9% for the first half of the year. This is linked to the hard work and efforts of every single person working at the airport. Although the number of movements at the airport has not changed in 2015, occupancy rates have improved, increasing the number of passengers we have welcomed. We are also continuing to work hard to extend our range of destinations and have seen the launch of new routes in the first half of the year, including Tlemcen and Constantine (Algeria – Jetairfly), Gdansk (Poland – Wizz Air) and Izmir (Turkey – Tour Operators Neckermann, Thomas Cook). And it’s not stopping there, with the launch of new routes to Lublin (Poland – Wizz Air), Copenhagen (Denmark – Ryanair) and Debrecen (Hungary – Wizz Air).”
