GROWTH IN JANUARY FOR BRUSSELS SOUTH CHARLEROI AIRPORT: 462.938 PASSENGERS CHOSE BSCA

Charleroi, 4 February 2016 – After ending 2015 with record results, Brussels South Charleroi Airport has seen an increase in the number of passengers welcomed at the airport in January 2016. 462,938 passengers came through Charleroi Airport, representing a 6% rise compared to the results for the same period last year: in fact, in January 2015, 434,760 passengers travelled through BSCA.

As well as passenger numbers going up in the first month of the year, the load factor of planes travelling via Charleroi also rose, reaching around 80%.

It is worth pointing out that the countries that attracted the most passengers during January were mainly around the Mediterranean. In the top five most popular countries flying to/from BSCA, Italy came top, followed by Spain, Morocco, France and lastly, Poland. Perfect for city breaks or relaxing holidays, Prague, Bucharest and Tenerife were the destinations that experienced the most significant increases.

As carnival season approaches, Brussels South Charleroi Airport is gearing up for a busy period. With nearly 200,000 passengers expected between 05/02/2016 and 14/02/2016, no fewer than 20,000 passengers will be passing through BSCA every day; the first weekend will see high numbers of departures, with around 25,000 passengers a day. During this time, more than a hundred flights will be taking off and landing every day on the runway of Brussels South Charleroi Airport.

As far as the management is concerned, these figures are seen as positive, and preparations are being made for the first holidays of 2016. Jean-Jacques Cloquet, Brussels South Charleroi Airport’s CEO, explains: “The new year has only just begun and the first results are already in. January ended with a 6% increase compared with 2015. This excellent figure for the first month of the year clearly demonstrates passengers’ confidence in Brussels South Charleroi Airport’s operational performance and punctuality. BSCA continues to innovate and seek out new solutions to make passengers’ lives easier. These figures confirm our commitment to keep on striving to meet the needs of as many people as possible and maintain the airport’s appeal. Our Early Check-In scheme, launched on 1 February, is part of this strategy to make travelling from Brussels South Charleroi Airport even easier. Forecasts for carnival season are promising and encourage us to make even more effort to keep moving forward.
