In 2013, the Chicago Department of Aviation’s (CDA) airports, O’Hare and Midway International, served over 87 million annual passengers and leading global airlines – including Air Berlin, Austrian Airlines, Hainan Airlines and Qatar Airways – began new Chicago service. Our airports are the gateway to the dynamic Chicago metropolitan area – the third-largest metro area in the United States (9.7 million residents) and consistently ranked among the top ten most economically powerful metropolitan areas in the world. The Chicago metro area’s population is significantly more diverse (21% Hispanic, 6% Asian), more affluent (top five U.S. metropolitan area as measured by households with income exceeding $75,000 USD) and better educated (nearly 40% of residents have obtained a post-secondary degree) than the U.S. average – all indicators of strong demand for international air travel. Additionally, the Chicago metro area has more than 400 major corporate headquarters, including 31 Fortune 500 headquarters (second-highest number of Fortune 500 headquarters in the U.S.). With the new capacity created by recent infrastructure improvements, the CDA is seeking to aggressively add new airlines and destinations, serving all corners of the globe, to both of our airports.

Our mission is to bring regional, national and international business and leisure visitors to Chicago for the economic benefit of the City, the community and our membership.
Choose Chicago is a private, nonprofit organization that is responsible for marketing the greater Chicago area as a business and leisure visitor destination. Choose Chicago is contracted by the City of Chicago and the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority to act as the official sales and marketing agency for McCormick Place and Chicago. It is governed by a board of directors, and employs a staff of more than 90 industry professionals. Funding is received from both private sector and public sources.
Choose Chicago uses a sophisticated integrated marketing approach to sell Chicago as a travel destination, which includes direct sales, advertising, tourism and convention industry trade shows, Internet promotions, e-mail blasts, websites, podcasts, e-newsletters, visitor guides and brochures, public relations strategies and press tours, client familiarization tours and site inspections. Choose Chicago operates two visitor information centers located in downtown Chicago.
