About Denver

The City and County of Denver is the largest city and forms the capital of the state Colorado. It is often referred to as the Mile High City because its official elevation is exactly one mile above sea level, making it one of the highest major cities in the US.

Denver is located in the South Platte River Valley on the western edge of the High Plains just east of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. There are 200 named peaks visible from Denver, including 32 that soar to 13,000 feet and above The mountain range visible from the city is 140 miles long.

It has the 10th largest downtown in America, which within a one mile radius boasts; more than 300 restaurants, 3 major sports stadiums, America’s 2nd largest performing arts centre, an assortment of art and history museums, a river offering white water rafting, an amusement park and $100 million aquarium.

Denver is one of only a few cities to have 7 professional sports teams. It also has the largest city park system in America, with more than 200 parks in the city and a further 14,000 acres of parks in the nearby mountains.
