Routes Focuses on the 'Golden Triangle'

Posted 09/03/2011 - Viewed 2605 time(s)

9 March, 2011, Berlin, Germany

A delegation from Routes, organisers of World Routes - the World Route Development Forum - to be held in Berlin, Germany, from 2-4 October 2011, are attending this year’s ITB Berlin.

They bring with them a simple yet significant message: the relationship between the aviation and tourism industries is one of vital interdependence, and World Routes is the place to facilitate the realisation of their common goals. At the heart of World Routes are the pre-scheduled one-to-one meetings between every type of airline, airport and tourism authority. These afford delegates the opportunity to meet face-to-face with the decision-makers in route development.

By getting directly involved in meeting airlines to encourage service to their region, tour operators and economic development agencies are able to work in collaboration with their airports to benefit their shared interests. The economic impact of attracting new routes is indisputable; as Cathy Tull, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority, noted “The non-gaming economic impact of one British Airways flight from London to Las Vegas is currently $91million annually”. World Routes as well as regional Routes events are the places where these routes are discussed, as confirmed by Tull: “This flight was a result of attending previous Routes forums”.

Many airlines talk about the ‘golden triangle’ of collaboration between airlines, airports and tourism authorities. Routes is committed to better serving this combination of partners and to facilitating meaningful discourse between them.

Some of the tourism authorities expected to attend this year’s World Routes are Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau, Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau, St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority, Tourism Auckland and Visit Orlando.

In recognition of the growing involvement of the tourism industry in route development, Routes is launching the Routes Tourism Award at this year’s World Routes. The award will recognise excellence in route development and will be presented alongside the Routes Airport Marketing Awards and the ORBIS Social Responsibility Award at the Gala Dinner.

Anyone attending ITB who wishes to get any further information about Routes should visit the Berlin Airports stand (Hall 13, Stand 101).
