Spirit reports 3Q net income falls 55%, ancillary revenue rises 30%

Spirit Airlines’ (NK) third-quarter net income fell 55.2% from the prior-year period to $27.7 million, owing to Hurricane Irene, a 65.2% year-over-year increase in fuel expenses, and a 38.9% increase in maintenance and repair costs.
