ROUTES AFRICA: Comair Doubles Capacity on Johannesburg - Nelspruit
Posted 02/07/2011
South African carrier and British Airways franchise partner Comair has this week boosted frequencies between Johannesburg and Nelspruit after introducing one of its leased ATR 72s on the route. The airline has been operating six flights per week on the route using a Boeing 737-300, but from July 1 has introduced the ATR 72 boosting flights to 12 a week, including a double daily schedules every week day.
This will mean no real change in capacity on the route but will offer a better schedule for business travellers, meaning the carrier can strengthen its yield and offer a more competitive service against rival South African Airways (SAA) which offers almost 40 flights per week; regional operator Pelican Air also offer a three times weekly schedule.
An estimated 165,000 passengers travelled on the route in the past year, a 32.6 per cent rise on the previous 12 months following Comair’s debut on the route. The airline has already secured a 24 per cent share of the total traffic.
Schedule:
BA6257 JNB0710 – 0810MQP ATR x67
BA6259 JNB1630 – 1730MQP ATR D
BA6258 MQP0840 – 0940JNB ATR x67
