American Eagle Flies into Watertown
Posted 09/08/2011
American Eagle Airlines has finalised negotiations with officials in Jefferson County to launch a twice daily service between Chicago O'Hare International Airport and Watertown International Airport in Watertown, New York. The new service will be introduced from November 17, pending government approval, and will be operated with a 44-seat Embraer ERJ140.
The route is expected to generate a good mix of point-to-point and connecting traffic, opening American Airlines’ and the wider oneworld alliance network to passengers via Chicago. It will also enable more efficient travel for military personnel and other visitors traveling to and from the US Army base at nearby Fort Drum and make the area more attractive for businesses who are looking to relocate or expand.
"We are very pleased having received final confirmation from American Eagle for a mid-November start date," said Barry Ormbsy, Chairman, Airport Committee – Jefferson County Board of Legislators. "Our ability to offer affordable non-stop jet service to Chicago O'Hare will greatly enhance our air traffic volume here in Watertown. With the commencement of this important commercial service, Jefferson County has now met yet another of its many ambitious airport development goals and, in so doing, further enhanced economic development opportunities for our region."
