Tiger Airways to Open Bangladesh Link

Tiger Airways to Open Bangladesh Link

Posted 23/12/2011

Tiger Airways is to become the first low-cost carrier to offer direct flights from Singapore to Dhaka when it launches services on the route next year.  The budget carrier has revealed it will introduce a weekly link from March 9, 2012 putting it in direct completion with legacy operators Singapore Airlines and Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

The carrier said the route would serve increasing traffic to the Bangladeshi city, which the carrier said is growing to become an important political and economic centre for South Asia.  "Dhaka is our first destination in Bangladesh, and the introduction of this service provides great opportunities to increase both business and consumer travel between Dhaka and Singapore," said Stewart Adams, Managing Director of Tiger Airways Singapore.

In the past year an estimated 201,000 O&D passengers travelled between Singapore and Dhaka, a figure that has grown 18.2 per cent in the past five years.  Tiger Airway Singapore says it expects traffic to be predominantly leisure orientated with travellers planning to visit family and friends, as well as those keen to explore Dhaka's historical monuments and shop for traditional handicrafts.
