Routes Africa is the only network planning forum for the African region and the 9^th Routes Africa will take place in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe on22-24 June 2014 hosted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe.

Around 300 key decision makers from across Africa and beyond are expected to gather at the annual event in 2014 to discuss air service development. The event attracts a wide range of carriers interested in developing air routes in Africa with over 20 carriers already registered including some major African carriers such as South African Airways and Ethiopian Airlines.

Other carriers from the region who have so far confirmed their attendance at the event include Fastjet, Air Seychelles, Kulula.com, Mango, Rwandair, Air Burkina, ECAir and Arik Air. In addition many out of region carriers have signed up to attend with registrations received, so far, from Americas Airlines, Etihad Airways, Vueling, Iberia, Emirates and Turkish Airlines amongst others. Airports from across the region and beyond have also been confirming their attendance in Zimbabwe with recent registrations received from many out of region airports such as Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, Cologne Bonn Airport, Ras Al Khaimah International Airport, Vienna Airport and Copenhagen Airports.

Victoria Falls, which is a major resort town easily accessible by air, road and rail, lies on the southern bank of the Zambezi River at the western end of the Victoria Falls themselves. For centuries, known and deemed sacred by the local Tonga people, as Mosi-oa-Tunya, (the smoke that thunders); this Natural World Wonder is shared by Zimbabwe and Zambia. The falls are Zimbabwe’s prime tourist attraction and are known for their splendor throughout the world whilst the town of Victoria Falls is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site and the Victoria Falls Green belt.

Victoria Falls International Airport (VFA), situated 21km south of the town, provides easy access to Victoria Falls and is currently served by scheduled domestic and regional flights and charter flights from various parts of the world. Within the region VFA is easily accessible from Johannesburg, Cape Town, Luanda, Nairobi and locally from Harare. VFA is currently implementing a major infrastructure upgrading project at a total cost of $150 million USD including construction of a new runway, international terminal building and control tower and is expected to be completed by December 2014.
