Allegiant Announces four new routes from Fort Lauderdale

American low-cost airline, Allegiant Airlines has announced four new routes from Fort Lauderdale due to commence from October 2015.

The Las Vegas carrier will begin nonstop service between Fort Lauderdale and Portsmouth, New Hampshire from October 1, followed by service to Akron-Canton, Ohio on October 2 and Rochester, New York on October 9. The routes will all be served two-times-weekly.

Southwest Airlines flies nonstop routes between Akron and Orlando, Tampa and Fort Myers, but no other airline currently flies from Akron to Fort Lauderdale. From Cleveland, Spirit Airlines and JetBlue Airways fly nonstop to Fort Lauderdale.

Allegiant will also add a new seasonal nonstop service between Fort Lauderdale and Grand Rapids, Michigan, which will commence on December 16, running through until April.

The service will complement the airline’s existing services to Orlando/Sanford and Tampa/St. Petersburg.

“Allegiant is very excited to announce these new flights to Fort Lauderdale, making the vacation destination even more accessible for these four communities,” said Jude Bricker, Allegiant Travel Company senior vice president of planning.

Focusing on leisure travellers, the new flights will bring over 58,000 additional visitors each year to the popular South Florida destination.

"Allegiant Air has been a great partner to the destination bringing thousands of visitors to our sun-kissed shores and we look forward to the new service spreading the warmth and beauty of Greater Fort Lauderdale to even more travelers,” said Nicki E. Grossman, president of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau.

As of May, the airline served 11 markets from Fort Lauderdale, including Asheville in North Carolina, Indianapolis in Indiana, Columbus in Ohio, Syracuse in New York and Memphis in Tennessee.

Allegiant’s business model has allowed it to grow from one plane and one route to offering access to low-cost flights in over 100 cities across America, more than any other domestic low-cost carrier.
