A Boeing 737 landed on the streets in Bolton this week surprising the local community. The English town in Greater Manchester, approximately ten miles north of the Routes HQ in central Manchester, is best known as the hometown of sportswear manufacturer Reebok, comedian Peter Kay and Boxing champion Amir Khan, certainly not for the arrival of civilian aircraft.

However, on the night of September 16, 2015 a Boeing 737 fuselage weaved its way through the streets of the town following its journey from the Cotswolds. The aircraft, formerly operated by Russian carrier Yamal Airlines, will soon house a new restaurant concept for Bolton, named ‘Steaks on a Plane’ and will be located on a site in Deane Road opposite the University of Bolton’s Technical College.

According to The Bolton News, the ambitious project was given planning permission by Bolton Council’s planning permission in October last year and will replace an iconic red double decker Steak Out bus which has previously taken centre stage on the site.

Aviation themed restaurants are not a new concept. In fact earlier this year in nearby Warrington a retail unit was turned into an aircraft hangar themed burger bar. The Hangar Number 4 restaurant venture has been established by Simon Grimes and Emma Catterall-Grimes and even houses part of a Cessna Citation II business jet by its bar. Hangar Number 4's 'destinations' include New York, Memphis, Istanbul, Frankfurt, Mexico City, London, Paris, Hamburg, Los Angeles and Nashville which each represent themed burgers.
