Leeds Bradford Expects Second Record Month in September

Leeds Bradford Airport recorded its busiest ever August when over 400,000 passengers travelled through the airport and it expects another record month in September thanks to recent new air services and stronger passenger demand.

For the first time in its history over 100,000 passengers a week used the airport in each of the four weeks during August and in total Leeds Bradford’s rolling annual passenger total has now increased to 3.4 million. August represented a year-on-year increase of four per cent in the total number of passengers travelling through the airport underpinned by increase in frequency on a number of domestic routes.

Speaking to Routesonline on the sidelines of the World Routes network development forum in Durban, South Africa, Tony Hallwood, aviation development director, Leeds Bradford Airport confirmed that the strong passenger growth “is continuing into September” based on excellent business route load factors and continued leisure demand for city breaks. “We expect that we will see another record month for passenger numbers,” he said.

“We now look forward to welcoming Vueling at Leeds Bradford in 2016 to Barcelona as our eleventh carrier and they will be a welcome addition to our airline portfolio providing point-to-point and hub connectivity at Barcelona. We are also confident that additional new routes and services for next summer will result from our planned meetings this week in Durban at World Routes," he added.
