From UNESCO World Heritage Sites to incredible natural scenery, there is no shortage of things to see and do in Chengdu and the wider Sichuan Province.

The host of World Routes 2016, Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, is offering a range of complimentary tours for delegates who want to experience Chengdu’s rich heritage.

You can choose from one of the following tours on the morning of 24 September:

Half-day tour of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding

A trip to Chengdu wouldn’t be complete without seeing the city’s giant pandas. Over 200 cubs have been born at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding since it was founded in 1987 to bring the animals back from the brink of extinction. Last week the base made international headlines when the ninth pair of twins was born in two months. Visitors can observe the pandas in their natural habitat and learn about China’s conservation work at the museum.

Half-day tour of the Jinsha Site

The Jinsha Site’s 3,000-year-old ruins were a major archaeological discovery at the beginning of this century. More than 200 gold articles from the kingdom of Shu were unearthed including masks, belts, frogs, fish and sunbirds. The treasures are displayed in the Jinsha Museum which offers a 4D cinema journey through Chengdu's fascinating history. The site’s gardens are also popular with visitors.

Half-day tour of Anren Ancient Town

Anren Ancient Town in Dayi County dates back to 620 AD. Anren is home to the biggest folk museum in China, the Jianchuan Museum, which contains cultural artefacts from the last 100 years. It is dedicated to four themes: the second Sino-Japanese War (1937–1945), the ‘Red era’, the Wenchuan Earthquake of 2008 and folklore and culture. The historical streets are lined with mansions and handicraft shops.

Half-day tour of Broad and Narrow Alley and Chengdu People’s Park

The old meets the new at Broad and Narrow Alley. The combination of the Old City's remains along with modern restaurants, shops and hotels is popular with tourists.

Chengdu People's Park is the largest green area in Chengdu. The tranquil grounds contain a lake, gardens, the Railway Protection Movement Monument and the Heming Teahouse (a local landmark).

Paid tours

If you want to take more time to explore Chengdu and Sichuan Province there is a range of paid tours on 28, 29 and 30 September:

· Day tour of the Jinsha Site, Broad and Narrow Alley and Du Fu's thatched cottage (a park and museum dedicated to the Tang Dynasty poet Du Fu)

· Day tour of the Dujiangyan Irrigation System (constructed around 256 BC), Qingcheng Mountain and JieZi Ancient Town

· Day tour of Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding and Sanxingdui Ruins

· Two-day Tour of Leshan Giant Buddha (an 8^th Century stone statue carved into a hillside) and Mount Emei (the tallest of the four sacred Buddhist mountains of China)
