SWISS add five destinations to their summer schedule

SWISS will offer customers five new routes as part of their summer schedule for 2017. Services will be available to Bergen, Norway; Cork, Ireland; Figari, Corsica; Niš, Serbia and Sylt, Germany on a seasonal basis.

Zurich to Bergen will be offered for the first time on SWISS on a weekly service from June 2017, increasing to twice-weekly during the peak holiday months of July and August. Norway’s second busiest airport handled more than six million passengers in 2015.

Cork Airport will see an additional 6,750 passengers through the new SWISS service to Zurich. This service will begin June 2, operating on a weekly basis on Bombardier C Series aircraft. As with Bergen, Zurich – Cork will operate twice a week during July and August.

Niall MacCarthy, managing director of Cork Airport said: “We are delighted that Swiss has come on board as our newest partner and we have been working with them for some time to secure the new route for the Munster region. We believe that the route has great potential from both an outbound as well as an inbound market. Switzerland has been a target market of ours, primarily due to its close business and pharmaceutical connections with the region. But also, we have the Wild Atlantic Way and Ireland’s Ancient East, both right on our doorstep.”

SWISS will expand their offering into the leisure market. The third largest airport on Corsica, Figari, will be served with two weekly flights from July 2017, whereas the Sylt in Germany will see a weekly service which will increase during peak season. The Zurich route is big news for Sylt who add another seasonal service to Switzerland next summer. In June 2017, SkyWork Airlines will also offer service to Basel/Mulhouse and Bern.

Niš Constantine the Great Airport in Serbia is the final route to be announced by SWISS for the summer season. Serbia’s second largest international airport saw immense growth in 2015 following a difficult 2014. Passenger numbers rose by more than 2500 percent, with 36,200 passengers handled for 2015.
