Delta joins California battle

Skyteam member Delta Airlines has announced that it plans to start a four daily service between Los Angeles and San Francisco for its Summer schedule.

The carrier will operate B737-800 aircraft and CRJ aircraft through its partner SkyWest Airlines. There are already four carriers operating the city pairs with the following carriers currently serving the market:

United Airlines - 112 weekly

Southwest - 72 weekly

American Airlines- 42 weekly

Virgin America- 41 weekly

IATA BSP data shows that over 1.8 million passengers have flown the route between Jan 2009 and 2010.
