Ash cloud update: plume heads south

The ash plume that has disrupted air services in Australia for the past 24 hours is being blown south of the continent.

Both Virgin Australia and Qantas will restore services today from Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney.

The latest forecast from the Bureau of Meteorology has shown that the ash plume will move into the Tasman today and no longer affect flights from these cities.

Virgin Australia’s Adelaide services will resume from 7am local time Wednesday, Melbourne from 12pm and Canberra and Sydney from 3pm

Qantas domestic services, which were suspended overnight, will resume services to and from Sydney at 2pm.

Services to and from Adelaide will resume at 5am.

Services to and from Canberra will resume at 11am and services to and from Hobart will reopen at 5pm.

Qantas services to and from New Zealand will be suspended until further notice.
