Virgin and Balpa extend discussion deadline

Posted 08/07/2011

Talks between Virgin Atlantic and pilots union Balpa are due to resume this morning.

The discussions over a pay dispute were due to end last night and a BALPA National Executive Committee was due to meet today to "discuss the way forward".

However, a Balpa spokesman said talks with the airline's executives have now been extended and would start again at 11am today, running alongside the Committee meeting.

Virgin flight crew have threatened a walk-out this summer.

Under strike rules, any industrial action would have to start four weeks after the ballot, which means July 18.

Balpa must give the airline a week's notice of any strike.
