Jamaica doubles tourist tax
Posted 23/08/2011
Jamaica is doubling its tourism tax to $20 from October 1, which will lead to a rise in airline ticket prices to the country.
The tax, called a Tourism Enhancement Fee, will be applied to all airline tickets purchased outside of Jamaica.
A spokeswoman for the Jamaica Tourist Board said the additional money would be used to promote the country as a tourist destination.
She said it would enable the country to give tourists a better experience and provide more information on what they can do in the country.
