Delta reportedly buying almost $9 billion in new Boeing 737s

Delta plans a major, almost US$9 billion deal to order 100 Boeing Co. (BA) single-aisle jets, says Bloomberg.
The deal would be for 737-900 extended range jets. They carry about 200 passengers.
Winning the possible contract is a boost for Boeing, according to Bloomberg.
Boeing recently lost its exclusive partnership with American Airlines. The later split its order between the US company and the French-based Airbus.
“Delta will use the new jets to replace its oldest and least-efficient planes, including some Boeing 757s that are 18 years old on average and MD-88s that are almost 21 years old,” Bloomberg reported.
The 737-900ER has a list price of $85.8 million, according to Boeing’s website.
Neither Delta nor Boeing had any comments, according to spokespeople.
