Garuda denies molesting female job seekers

Garuda Indonesia has been quick to hose down allegations that female job applicants in South Korea were asked to strip to their panties during medical examinations.

Garuda Indonesia recently interviewed applicants to pick 18 Korean crew members for its new flight service.

Local Korean media reported that the women were ordered to take a “health examination” in which a male doctor touched their breasts to check whether they have implants, which the company said would endanger them when flying.

A Garuda Indonesia official has denied allegations, claiming that all recruitment stages are securely monitored by stringent standards.

Garuda corporate communications vice president Pujobroto, quoted by tempointeraktif.com, said the physical checkup, where the harassment allegedly took place, was performed by a physician and local staff.

“We were only performing [medical] checkups, which were in line with our strict standards, I assure you,” he said.

The company told Korean media it conducted similar examination when picking stewardesses in all countries, including Japan and Australia.
