CAA rejects Flybe complaint against Gatwick

The Civil Aviation Authority has rejected a claim by regional carrier Flybe that Gatwick Airport discriminates against operators of small aircraft.
Flybe had complained that its fees "significantly increased" following the introduction on April 1 of Gatwick's new pricing structure, which takes no account of the size or weight of landing aircraft.
Gatwick argued that the flat-rate fee was based on objective criteria designed to ensure the most efficient use of scarce airport capacity.
After a preliminary assessment, the CAA said it believed the new charging structure was justified. It said it was not minded to investigate the complaint further, but it is consulting stakeholders on this view and inviting representations from interested parties before November 4.
