Hong Kong battered by typhoon

Posted 30/09/2011

Airlines are warning flights to and from Hong Kong could be delayed today due to a strong typhoon that has brought the Chinese city to a standstill.

British Airways said passengers should be prepared for flight disruption, though none of the flights due to depart this evening has been cancelled. Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific said only regional flights, including those operated by its subsidiary Dragonair, had been affected but warned people to check their flight before travelling to the airport.

The Hong Kong airport authority said 24 flights had been cancelled, a further 28 diverted and more than 300 delayed due to the storm which hit Hong Kong early this morning. It is now heading for China's Hainan island.
