Budget airline brings possibility of cheap flights to Asia

Singapore Airlines has confirmed plans to launch a new long-haul budget carrier by the middle of next year which could lead to fares tumbling between the UK and Asia.
Called 'Scoot', the budget carrier will offer seats at up to 40% less than full-service airlines operating in Asia, and although flights to the UK have yet to be confirmed, Singapore has stated the new budget carrier will expand into Europe in the future.
Singapore already owns low-cost airline SilkAir and is a majority shareholder in budget carrier Tiger Airways, but this latest project will see it expand its budget concept to long-haul routes for the first time.
Scoot will operate flights to destinations in Asia, Asutralia and China in the first year before expanding its operations to Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
Scoot, which will start with four Boeing 777-200 wide-bodied aircraft, will competed with AirAsia X, the the long haul affiliate of Malaysian budget carrier AirAsia.
