Prestige Holidays has expanded its management team with the appointment of David Skillicorn in the new role of general manager.

Skillicorn, 52, was formerly the managing director of Palmair, the airline and tour-operating arm of Bath Travel, where he worked for 16 years.

He left Palmair earlier this year.

At Prestige, he will support chairman and managing director John Dixon in the day-to-day running of the business.

He will also be responsible for the company’s sales, reservations and marketing teams.

Dixon said: "We have managed to keep our management team tight despite introducing two new significant destinations - Canada in 2009 and Croatia in March of this year.

"However, after a much better than anticipated 2011 and a surge in early 2012 bookings, particularly to Croatia and Canada, my fellow directors and I felt we needed another pair of experienced hands."

Dixon said the company has ambitious plans for growth and having Skillicorn on board will enable him to "spend more time working on new projects and developing strategic initiatives that will strengthen the business".

Skillicorn said: "I’ve known of Prestige for many years and have had the pleasure of dealing with John on many occasions, so to join his team at this point in the company’s history is very exciting."
