Ryanair check-in staff are being paid to spot oversized pieces of hand luggage and charge customers to put them in the hold, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

The Servisair staff, who provide check-in services for Ryanair at Liverpool's John Lennon Airport receive £5 for every 10 pieces of hand luggage they check-in, said the paper.

A spokesperson for Servisair said passengers were aware of terms and conditions relating to luggage. Ryanair charges up to £55 each way for every bag checked in at the airport.

Ryanair said passengers were allowed to take a bag weighing up to 10kg on board and only those who exceeded the free allowance would be charged.
