Bordeaux Airport records 10% traffic growth in 2010

Bordeaux Airport (BOD) recorded a cumulated growth of +10% between January and November 2010, with an increase in international traffic of +33.6% compared with the same period in 2009.

With these record figures, Bordeaux Airport maintained through out the year and despite the
islandic volcano crisis, its first place in the 2010 growth rankings of the five largest regional French
airports, whose growth levels averaged between -2.4% and +2.9%.

billi effect - These results can be largely attributed to the May 2010 opening of Bordeaux’s purposebuilt low-cost terminal, billi which welcomed a number of new low-cost routes to the terminal including Milan with easy jet, Bologna, Edinburgh, Cork, Porto with Ryanair;

Positive regional trends - Besides new Low costs operations, Bordeaux airport as a whole benefited from a global recovery of the local economy; routes operated by legacy carriers from Bordeaux performed well.

Passenger traffic to Europe’s large international hubs continued to develop in the month of  November, compared with November 2009, with growth on Air France/KLM’s routes to Paris  Charles-de-Gaulle (+8.4%) and Amsterdam Schipol (+1.8%) as well as on Iberia’s route to Madrid
(+10.6%).

There was also a clear level of success on those routes served by two airlines including London Gatwick, served by British Airways and easyJet (+65.1%); Geneva, operated by Baboo and easyJet (+22.4%); and Casablanca, served by Royal Air Maroc and Jet4You (+86.9%).

Bordeaux Airport’s successful year looks set to continue into 2011 with several new routes which include as of the Iata summer programme: the venue of TAP between Bordeaux and Lisbon; the launching of new long haul destinations such as Punta cana with XL AIRWAYS or La Reunion with AIR AUSTRAL and various other routes programme enlargement.
