Emirates to put A380 on Rome Fiumicino route

As from December 1st

Middle Eastern carrier Emirates is to deploy Airbus A380 aircraft on the route to the Italian capital Rome towards the end of this year.

The double-deck jet will be used on the Rome Fiumicino service from 1 December, said the Dubai-based airline.

"Rome is the first Italian airport that can accommodate an A380 with the complete operating infrastructure," said Aeroporti di Roma aviation director Elia Pistola.

Emirates operated an A380 to Rome on 6 June to mark the 50th anniversary of the airport. The carrier currently operates twice-daily to the city.

It has 15 A380s in its fleet and will begin using the type for flights to Johannesburg in October, Kuala Lumpur in December and Munich in January 2012.
