Airport International Group Announces Preferred Bidders for Car Rental Operators

Airport International Group (AIG), the Jordanian consortium responsible for the rehabilitation, expansion, and operation of the Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA), has announced the selection of preferred bidders for the car rental operators at the new terminal. The preferred bidders are: Thrifty, Budget, Hertz, Avis, Europcar, National-Alamo, and Payless.

The comprehensive process to select car rental partners began in April 2012, and was open to submissions from both local and international car rental service providers.

The ultimate objective of the bidding and evaluation process is to offer the best quality services for travelers. The process of selecting the most suitable finalist was the result of thorough analysis based on objective criteria to ensure the utmost fairness and transparency. Strict technical and financial requirements were examined in the evaluation process, which included the involvement of the Project Management Unit from the Ministry of Transport.

“With the selection of internationally known rental car providers, we are guaranteeing that travelers who require a vehicle while in the Kingdom will be able to obtain one at the airport from a name they trust,” commented Kjeld Binger, CEO of AIG. “The quality of service provided by reliable car rental operators at the QAIA will bring us closer to our goal of providing a world-class experience to our growing number of visitors.”

AIG’s investment of US $750 million to build the state-of-the-art terminal – in addition to US $100 million spent on rehabilitating the terminals currently in use – is intended to develop Jordan’s primary gateway, the QAIA, as a regional niche hub. The terminal is in the end stages of construction with 85% completed to date.
