Corendon opens base at NUE

Corendon is quickly becoming a major player at NUE. It has recently stationed its first aircraft at the airport and will expand its capacity to 23 destinations up to 57 times a week by summer 2020. Yildiray Karaer, Founder and CEO of Corendon explains that the airline has flown from Nuremberg for many years and has gradually expanded its number of flights. “The decision to station an aircraft here was a logical one”, he says. “It makes sense with regard to the potential of the metropolitan region and underlines our successful cooperation with Nuremberg Airport.”

In summer 2020, the airline will offer daily flights to Majorca, as well as weekly nonstop flights to Tel Aviv and flights to the Canary Islands (Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Tenerife). Corendon will also offer six new Turkish destinations (Adana, Ankara, Bodrum, Dalaman, Gazipaşa and Trabzon) as well as additional flights to İzmir. These destinations represent a significant development in the VFR segment, as the Turkish community constitutes the largest foreign community in Nuremberg Airport’s catchment.

With Corendon, NUE will have another nonstop connection to a second airport on Crete (Chania). Corendon will also double its flights to Heraklion. For Christian Käser, Head of Route Development & Aviation Marketing, this is a good example of strategic thinking: “Corendon is making use of blue ocean opportunities to fly not just to Herkalion, which has more heavy slot-restrictions, but Chania too”, he explains. He also cites the choice of routes to Adana, Bodrum, Dalaman, Gazipaşa und Trabzon as “blue ocean thinking”, as they are served by few competitors.
